Renovation of the Thomas P. Stafford Building (Building 27) at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, involving comprehensive upgrades to aging mechanical, electrical, and building systems within an occupied training facility. Work includes demolition and replacement of air handling units with temporary systems to maintain HVAC operations; rebalancing air distribution systems; demolition and replacement of chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and associated piping; upgrades to building relief air systems, smoke evacuation systems, and chilled water systems with new controls; and full transition from pneumatic to direct digital control (DDC) systems. Electrical upgrades include replacement of infrastructure supporting new mechanical equipment, installation of new panels and protections, and completion of electrical studies and updated one-line diagrams. Interior renovations include demolition and replacement of ceiling systems, lighting fixtures, diffusers, return grilles, and finishes in common circulation areas; upgrades to restrooms with new fixtures, finishes, and associated mechanical, electrical, and fire protection modifications; improvements to breakroom and café areas; and replacement of flooring, signage, stair components, and entrance features. Fire protection and life safety upgrades include replacement of fire alarm systems with addressable devices, installation of a new emergency responder radio communication system, and conversion of fire suppression systems. Additional scope includes replacement of CRAC units and execution of work during off-hours and weekends to minimize disruption to ongoing operations.
