The RFP is an invitation to submit offers for the provision of The Supply and Install of a Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface. This equipment will be used to establish Canada’s first dedicated Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS)–enabled Smart Radio Environment laboratory at Western University. The infrastructure will support experimental research in AI-driven next-generation (6G) wireless communication networks, with a focus on intelligent control of wireless propagation environments, real-time channel modeling and estimation, and hardware-aware system optimization. The RIS equipment will be used to experimentally validate theoretical models for RIS-assisted wireless communications across both low-frequency (3.5 GHz – 5 GHz) and high-frequency (26 GHz – 30 GHz) bands. It will enable controlled manipulation of signal reflection, phase shifting, and beamforming in realistic propagation environments. Supporting high-performance computing workstations will be used for real-time AI ML-based channel estimation, RIS configuration optimization, multi-user transmission design, and system-level evaluation. The equipment will be deployed in Thompson Engineering Building at Western University and used by graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and collaborating faculty for research in wireless communications, edge AI, intelligent transportation, smart cities, and integrated sensing and communication systems.
