**As of August 19th, 2026 this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for the award has not yet been established.** https://www.miamitodaynews.com/2026/07/29/massive-concrete-pour-cements-a-signature-bridge-completion-downtown/ Another major milestone has been achieved as work crews construct the iconic Signature Bridge in downtown Miami, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The agency reports the project team’s completion of the foundation pour for Signature Bridge Arch #6 adjacent to the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science. This was the second-largest concrete and most complex foundation pour of the entire project and represents a significant step toward construction of one of the two remaining arches, says FDOT. It’s all a part of the sprawling I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project, the product of a partnership between FDOT and the Greater Miami Expressway Agency, and contractor, Archer Western – de Moya Group Joint Venture. The new foundation measures 120 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 16 feet deep, and required 3,672 cubic yards of concrete, delivered by 408 concrete trucks, placed by four concrete pumps – with a fifth on standby. To ensure the concrete cures properly, crews installed an advanced cooling system consisting of more than 30,000 feet of tubing circulating chilled water from a large industrial chiller, with a backup chiller on site. The overall project includes a spider-like Signature Bridge over Northeast Second Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard, an upper deck of traffic over State Road 836 and the Miami River, and the addition of one lane to the northbound entrance to I-95. The goal is to add capacity, enhance the flow of traffic and safety, and improve access along I-395, SR 836 and I-95. This week and next will see daytime closure of southbound North Bayshore Drive. Through Friday, July 31, and Monday, Aug. 3, through Friday, Aug. 7, southbound North Bayshore Drive will be closed from Northeast 14th to 13th streets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Miami Drivers on southbound North Bayshore Drive can turn right on Northeast 15th Street or Northeast 14th Street to connect with Biscayne Boulevard. In an email to Miami Today, Maria Rosa Higgins Fallon, Public Information Director for FDOT District Six, wrote: “All major aspects of the project continue moving forward, with completion expected in late 2029 at an estimated total cost of approximately $866 million.” FDOT cited ongoing construction along I-95 that includes: ¦Installation of Intelligent Transportation System devices. ¦Concrete pavement replacement on I-95 between Northwest Eighth and 17th streets southbound lanes. ¦Widening of the southbound I-95 ramp to Northwest 14th Street completed. ¦Traffic railing retrofit on several bridges. Ongoing construction along I-395 includes: ¦Drainage work along Biscayne Boulevard from Northeast 14th Street to Northeast 11th Terrace and on Northeast 13th Street from Biscayne Boulevard to Northeast Second Avenue. ¦Construction of signature bridge arch foundations east of Biscayne Boulevard and west of Northeast Second Avenue. ¦Reinforcing steel installation and ongoing concrete pours for the westbound signature bridge roadway deck. ¦Daytime installation of precast roadway segments and concrete pours on Northwest 14th Street from Northwest First Place to Northwest Third Avenue. ¦Night arch construction over Biscayne Boulevard requiring full closures from Northeast 13th Street to Northeast 11th Terrace. ¦Construction of columns and installation of bridge beams from Northwest First Avenue to I-95. The elevated freeway extends to the MacArthur Causeway over Biscayne Bay on the east, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts to the north. ---------------------------- Roadway paving improvements including asphalt paving, paved turnouts, pavement markings, signage, sodding/restoration, maintenance of traffic, erosion control, and testing.
