The New York State Thruway Authority seeks to retain a qualified engineering firm to provide bridge design services in the New York Division. Assignments will support the delivery of the Authority's Contracts Program and may be made at any time during the contract duration, including concurrently. The highway includes mainline bridges on the Thruway and overhead bridges that carry local and state highways over the system. Most bridges are multi-span steel girder bridges with concrete decks from the 1950s and 1960s. Projects will focus primarily on rehabilitation or replacement of existing bridges or other structures, with construction staging and traffic control a major consideration to minimize disruptions. Vertical clearance improvements to current standards are required. Possible project types include: bridge rehabilitation (steel repairs, bearing replacement, deck/superstructure replacement, substructure repairs, joint replacement), mainline or overhead bridge replacement, seismic rehabilitation/retrofit, slope stabilization/retaining wall/excavation support, temporary structures, emergency repairs, and overhead sign structures. The engineering firm will complete preliminary engineering (Phase I-IV) in accordance with NYSDOT manuals, resulting in a Final Design Report/Design Approval Document. Preliminary engineering tasks may be included as necessary.
