Site work and renovation of a bridge / tunnel in Bear Lake, Michigan. Completed plans call for the renovation of a bridge / tunnel; and for site work for a bridge / tunnel.

Relining of multiple concrete and corrugated metal pipe culverts throughout various locations in Kalkaska, Leelanau, and Manistee counties. Project 1: 71'of 36" Dia Concrete Pipe - Culvert on US-131, Kalkaska County Project 2: 63'of 18" Dia Concrete Pipe - Culvert on M-22, LeelanauCounty Project 3: 60'of 18" Dia CMP - Culvert on M-22, Leelanau County Project 4: 75'of 24" Dia CMP - Culvert on M-22, Manistee County Project 1 Location: US-131 Boardman Township, Section 15, Kalkaska County, Michigan This crossing is located approximately 8200' northeast of the intersection of US 131 and Church St. The crossing is near the overhead power line crossing. Click link for map. Culvert Location 1 The culvert is concrete pipe, 36" diameter x 71' long. Sloped pipe sections in place with cross tubes and longitudinal tubes. The tubes will need to be removed and replaced after relining. Project 1 Description of Work: The existing concrete culvert has joints that are separating along with some joints that have dropped and misaligned, causing sags within the pipe. The sags are causing erosion in both shoulders of the road. This structure is located in a flowing stream. MDOT has already received a permit to work at this location. There may be some specific EGLE guidelines to follow. The work for this project will consist of the construction of a temporary coffer dam. There is a constant flow of water. Bypass pumping will be required. The cost for bypass pumping will be included in the cost of the pipe repair. The contractor is responsible for cleaning out all debris and televising the pipe to locate and record the failed joints and section. After completion of the cleaning and televising, the Contractor shall install an Ultra-violet light cured-in-place fiberglass liner per the attached special provisions. Sloped pipe sections in place with cross tubes and longitudinal tubes. The tubes will need to be removed and replaced after relining. Upon completion of the liner placement, the Contractor shall complete any required restoration of the front slope, ditch, or road shoulder, and repair any damage occurred during the relining process. Project 2 Location: M-22 Elmwood Township, Section 9, Leelanau County, Michigan This crossing is located approximately 1450' north of the intersection of M-22 and Crain Hill Road. Click link for map Culvert Location 2 The existing culvert is reinforced concrete pipe, 18" diameter x 58' long. (63' total length for reline) This culvert will need to be extended with reinforced concrete pipe. Project 2 Description of Work: The existing concrete culvert has joints that are separating along with some joints that have dropped and misaligned, causing sags within the pipe. The pipe needs to be extended to stop the shoulder failure. There is an existing concrete headwall on the end of the pipe. This head wall will be buried in place with topsoil after completion. It is noted, there is an existing 1 1/4 " black poly pipe for irrigation in the culvert, along with a power line. Both appear to have been cut for removal. Both the pipe and the cable will need to be removed and disposed of prior to relining. The work for this project will consist of placing a 5' section of 18" Corrugated Metal Pipe with a slip in sleeve, on the west side of the road to extend the culvert to reach the ditch bottom and stop the shoulder from failing. The culvert extension will require some minimal excavation to place the pipe. The new 5' extension will require backfill and topsoil to shape the roadway front slope to match the existing front slope. The front slope material, if needed, will be imported by the contractor. The contractor is responsible for cleaning out all debris and televising the pipe to locate and record the failed joints and section. After completion of the cleaning and televising, the Contractor shall install an Ultra-violet light cured-in-place fiberglass liner per the attached special provisions. The fiberglass liner shall extend the length of the pipe, including the 5' newly added section. Upon completion of the liner placement, the Contractor shall complete any required restoration (raking and seeding) of the front slope, ditch, or road shoulder, and repair any damage occurred during the relining process. Project 3 Location: M-22 Leelanau Township, Section 35, Leelanau County, Michigan This crossing is located approximately 1000' south of the intersection of M-22 and Freeland Road. Click link for a map Culvert Location 3 The culvert is a corrugated metal pipe 18" x 60' long. The bottom of the pipe is rusted out and will require a grouted bottom be placed. Project 3 Description of Work: The existing culvert is in rough shape. The bottom of the culvert is totally rusted out and missing. Soil is eroding along the structure. The roughness of the bottom of the culvert will require some type of pre-liner to prevent damage to the CIPP liner during installation. The contractor is responsible for cleaning out all debris and televising the pipe to locate and record the extent of the damage. After completion of the cleaning and televising, the Contractor shall place the protective liner and install an Ultra-violet light cured-in-place fiberglass liner per the attached special provisions. Upon completion of the liner placement, the Contractor shall complete any required repairs if the shoulder is damaged during the relining process. Project 4 Location: M-22 Manistee Township, Section 10, Manistee County, Michigan This crossing is located approximately 50' north of the intersection of M-22 and Schoedel Road. Click link for a map Location 4 The culvert is a corrugated metal pipe 24" x 75' long. Project 4 Description of Work: The existing culvert has holes in it that are allowing soil to wash out during high rain events, causing a sink hole to form in the west shoulder of the road. This culvert will be relined with a fiberglass CIPP. The bottom is rough with some holes. A pre-liner may be required to protect the actual fiberglass liner during the initial installation.
