Renovation of a stadium in Tacoma, Washington. Completed plans call for the renovation of a stadium.
The Project consists of the design of power system modifications at the Tacoma Dome including additional stage power connections, front of house floor power connections and front of house mezzanine power panels. There are two (2) redundant 400-ton McQuay, water-cooled centrifugal chillers that provide chilled water to multiple air handling units. These chillers have experienced ongoing operational issues throughout their approximately fifteen (15) years of service, primarily related to difficulty with turndown during the many hours of part-load operation. Both units are nearing the end of their useful life. In 2023, Tacoma Venues and Events (TVE) completed a full refurbishment of Chiller 1 (CH1), which included a complete rebuild and the addition of a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). This project proposes the refurbishment of Chiller 2 (CH-2) to extend its service life. The work includes a full compressor replacement, eddy current testing of chiller tubes, controls upgrades, oil replacement, and refrigerant analysis. To improve efficiency during part-load operation, a VFD will be installed to reduce motor speed when applicable.
