Renovation of a mixed-use development in Wichita, Kansas. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.

Construct and renovate approximately 2,500 square feet of existing food service space within Building 2 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center to prepare the site for installation, relocation, and operation of Choice Dining production equipment and associated support areas. Work will be executed in three phases to maintain uninterrupted Nutrition & Food Services operations and continuous medical center functionality throughout construction. Phase 1 includes partial demolition in the hot production and tray line entry area. Phase 2 includes demolition and renovation of hot production, tray assembly, and cold food preparation areas. Phase 3 includes demolition and renovation of the administration area. Work includes selective demolition and removal of existing systems, finishes, utilities, and food production equipment; renovation and reconfiguration of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; installation of new partitions, ceilings, lighting, casework, and interior finishes; relocation and reuse of existing kitchen equipment; installation of new utility connections for kitchen equipment including power, plumbing, floor sinks, domestic water, gas piping, waste connections, and replacement of the steam-to-domestic hot water generator. The project also includes HVAC modifications, rebalancing and reconfiguration of existing air handling systems, replacement of terminal units, installation of new diffusers and grilles, integration of controls into the existing Building Management System, electrical upgrades, installation of a new equipment panel, receptacles, power drops, lighting, occupancy sensors, and fire protection system modifications. Additional work includes site preparation for Government-furnished food service equipment, structural supports, utility interfaces, hazardous materials abatement including asbestos remediation as required, and all related construction activities necessary to support the new Choice Dining production layout. Construction will occur in an occupied and operational healthcare facility and requires carefully phased execution, strict adherence to Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements, noise and vibration limitations, and daily coordination with VA personnel to ensure uninterrupted medical services.
