Description: ICE targets ‘detention desert’ with new facility in North Carolina reports plans by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to convert the long-dormant Rivers Correctional Institution into North Carolina’s first immigration detention center in Winton, North Carolina. The facility, owned by GEO Group, is expected to provide approximately 1,400 beds. Contract negotiations are ongoing, and activity at the site includes trucks onsite and fence installation. No architect or contractor was identified.
