Demolition and Removal of 60-Foot Rappel Tower Location: Blue Thunder Training Site, Maxwell AFB Objective: Safely dismantle, remove, and dispose of the existing 60-foot wooden rappel tower, including all associated hardware, guy wires, and structural supports, and restore the site to its pre-demolition condition without disrupting ongoing training operations. o General Requirements and Site Preparation The Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials, and supervision required to safely demolish the structure. Due to active personnel training in the Blue Thunder area, the Contractor must coordinate a daily work schedule with the Site Manager. High-visibility barricades and exclusion zones must be established daily and removed or secured at the end of each shift. A daily Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and hazard sweep must be conducted to ensure the safety of training personnel. o Structural Demolition and Guy Wire Removal The Contractor shall systematically dismantle the 60-foot wooden tower structure. This includes the removal of the central wooden stair access, decking, railing, and main vertical supports. The Contractor shall disconnect, dismantle, and completely remove all guy wires, including their respective ground anchors. All dismantling must be done in a controlled manner (e.g., using a crane or manlift) to prevent uncontrolled collapse into the active training area. o Sub-Surface Support Removal To prevent future hazards, all main wooden supports and structural footings must be excavated and completely removed to a minimum depth of 4 inches below the final grade. Any concrete or aggregate footings associated with the supports or guy wire anchors must also be extracted and removed from the site. o Debris Disposal All demolished materials, including treated wood, metal fasteners, guy wires, and concrete footings, shall be hauled off Maxwell AFB property. The Contractor is responsible for the legal disposal of all materials at an approved Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfill . Treated wood must be handled and disposed of according to local environmental regulations.
