The project consists of improvements to an approximately 1.1 -mile-long section of McDowell Road from Litchfield Road to Dysart Road, including the intersection of Litchfield Road & McDowell Road. The proposed improvements are to reconstruct and widen the east and west bound lanes to provide one additional travel lane in each direction. Reconstruction will include pavement and street light removal, modification to/ installation of median(s) with landscaping, including curb and gutter, landscaping restoration and irrigation, concrete sidewalks, assessment of roadway infrastructure for drainage improvements, signage and pavement markings, new streetlights, bus bay shelter(s), and traffic signal modifications. Construction 09/15/2026 Project Substantial Completion 07/15/2027 Project Close-out (including Landscape 09/15/2027 Establishment) Roadway widening and reconstruction of raised median and pavement along McDowell Road from Litchfield Road to just west of the Dysart Road intersection to accommodate a third thru lane and bike lanes in each direction. Roadway widening and reconstruction of pavement, raised median, outside curb & gutter, curb returns, and curb ramps at the McDowell Road and Litchfield Road intersection to accommodate the above lane configuration as well as existing dual left and right turn lanes. Impacted driveways will be reconstructed with new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) concrete sidewalk, ramps and driveways. Drainage improvements such as storm drain, catch basins/inlets, lateral pipelines, and retention basins impacted by the proposed McDowell Road/Litchfield Road intersection widening. New pavement marking and signing within the limits of roadway reconstruction. Traffic signal improvements at the McDowell Road/Litchfield Road intersection due to the proposed widening. Other signalized intersections along McDowell Road such as 136th Drive, Palm Valley Boulevard, and Palm Valley Cornerstone are anticipated to be protected in-place and new A3 poles added in the raised median. Reconstruct intelligent transportation system (ITS) infrastructure impacted by the proposed McDowell Road/Litchfield Road intersection widening. Reconstruct street lighting and conduit impacted by the proposed McDowell Road widening. Reconstruct landscape and landscape irrigation improvements in raised median areas where widening occurs. The project will also construct a combined landscape irrigation system that includes the City maintained landscape irrigation system located along the north side of McDowell Road adjacent to the residential communities. Relocation of private utility conflicts caused by the proposed widening.
