Installation of retroflective back plates on signal heads, replacement of signal heads, implementation of Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPI), installation of high visibility crosswalks and advance limit lines, and extension of raised median. Bidders are required to post their questions to the City Project Manager online The purpose of the South Gate Citywide Intersection Improvement Project is to enhance pedestrian and motorist safety at seven major intersections. The desired improvements include but are not limited to upgrading signal hardware such as installing retroflective back plates on existing signal heads and the removal/replacement of existing signal heads with new signal heads at various intersections. The project will also accommodate pedestrians by increasing Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPI) at 3 intersections along Firestone Blvd, and also install high visibility crosswalks with advance limit line at Firestone Blvd and Garfield Ave. The project will also extend the raised median at Southern P1 and Atlantic Ave to the south to prevent eastbound left turns. The following is a detailed description of the work required at each intersection: back-plates with retroreflective borders. Provide protected left turn phase for existing left turn lane. 2. Firestone Boulevard at Alexander Avenue - Improve signal hardware: lenses, back-plates with retroreflective borders. Provide protected left turn phase for existing left turn lane. 3. Firestone Boulevard at Santa Fe Avenue - Improve signal hardware: lenses, back-plates with retroreflective borders. 4. Garfield Avenue at Garfield Place Improve signal hardware: lenses, back-plates with retroreflective borders. Provide protected left turn phase for existing left turn lane. 5. Firestone Boulevard at Garfield Avenue - Improve signal hardware: lenses, back-plates with retroreflective borders. Modify signal phasing to implement a Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI). 6. Firestone Boulevard at San Juan Avenue - Improve signal hardware: lenses, back-plates with retroreflective borders. Modify signal phasing to implement a Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI). 7. Atlantic Avenue at Southern Place - Create directional median opening to restrict eastbound left turns.
