Construction of a trail at the Town Farm Conservation Area that complies with the U.S. Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines (FSTAG). Question Deadline 08/19/2026 at 4:00 PM ET Bidder questions to be submitted in writing to Christopher Brittain (christopher.brittain@leema.gov) Timely written responses to bid questions will be available online. Location The project is located on the Town Farm Conservation Area , 300 Stockbridge Road, Lee MA Background The Cornhill Farm Conservation Area comprises approximately 180 acres of recently acquired protected town land. A trail assessment recommended constructing a trail that complies with US Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines ( FSTAG) beginning at the Stockbridge Road parking lot extending into existing fields (see photo) and feature rest areas, pullouts and vistas. Tasks include: 1) LOOP TRAIL Installing approximately 2,400 linear feet of new universally accessible crushed stone trail. Trail originates at existing gravel parking lot, and traverses open fields and two cleared tree lines (See sketch plan). Trail shall maintain a maximum running slope of 5% and shall maintain a 2% cross slope. Trail to maintain consistent 5-foot crushed stone width with additional minimum of 1/2 foot loam edging on both sides. One approximate 20' wide drainage swall may require leveling. One 20' by 5' crushed stone vista/ pullout shall be installed. Three 3' by 5' crushed stone resting places shall be installed adjoining the accessible loop trail (see sketch plans). 2) EXENSION Installing approximately 1800 linear feet of new universally accessible crushed stone trail. Extension links to loop trail and connects to Via Franco Road traversing open fields and one cleared tree line (see sketch plan). Trail shall maintain a maximum running slope of 8% and shall maintain a 2% cross slope. Trail to maintain consistent 5-foot crushed stone width with additional minimum of 1/2 foot loam edging on both sides. One approximate 20' wide drainage swall may require leveling. One 20' by 5' crushed stone vista/ pullout shall be installed. Four 3' by 5' crushed stone resting places shall be installed (one each segment) adjoining the trail. There will be 12' diameter level areas at the corner of each switchback and each section of trail between these level areas will have one or more grade dips or reversals to encourage stormwater drainage o the trail. The surface of the tread will be no more than an inch above the surrounding grade. Project Requirements The new trail is to be constructed by excavating to a width of 6-feet and depth of 12-inches. All areas to feature 8" aggregate stone base, approved filter fabric layer and a 4- inch compacted depth of 3/8' minus crusher fines top to applicable grade.
