Replacement of main transformers, switchgear, and emergency/standby power systems, installation of a temporary transformer, construction of a screen wall around the equipment yard, and civil/site work for underground conduit routing. The URI Carothers Library is located on the Kingston Campus and serves as the university's primary research library. The building is a multi-story structure of approximately 93,000 square feet, originally constructed in 1965 , and then undergoing major renovations in the early 90s. The existing electrical infrastructure supporting the building has reached end of life and needs replacement. The critical power systems, including the main transformers, switchgear, and emergency and standby power equipment are aging and no longer adequate to meet the operational demands of the facility. The current configuration presents ongoing maintenance challenges and reliability concerns for a building that serves as a critical academic resource. The primary objectives of this project are to: 1. Remove and replace the main electrical transformers serving the building. 2. Remove and replace the existing switchgear systems. 3. Remove and replace the emergency and standby power systems. 4. Procure and install a temporary transformer to maintain building power continuity during construction, if required . 5. Install a decorative architectural equipment screen around the existing electrical equipment yard. 6. Perform civil and site work to accommodate underground conduit routing beneath the loading dock drive into the interior electrical room.
