Construction of a double-barrel box culvert on Heritage Road. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.$50,000 to $100,000 The culvert shall match the size and Hydraulic Opening indicated in the contract plans or specified by the County in the bid documents. The culvert shall be constructed according to Section 722 in the SCDOT 2025 Standard Specifications for Highway Construction. A. Design Details 1 . Estimated cover/fill on top of the culvert will be 1 ' -2" compacted red clay, 6" crusher run, 2" binder, and 2" surface asphalt for a total road section of 2'. 2. Provide recommended methods for the connection of culvert sections and wing walls. 3. The bottom of the wing wall footer and the bottom of the box must be at the same elevation. B. Joint Sections Refer to the SCDOT 2025 Standard Specifications for Highway Construction, section 722. C. Manufacturing/Testing 1. Manufacturing shall be in accordance with AASHTO or ASTM. Refer to the SCDOT 2025 Standard Specifications for Highway Construction, section 722. Before Pickens County accepts the culvert, test cylinders must have passed in accordance with the said section of the standard. 2. Provide four (4) lifting/handling points using DR System Dog Bone and Clutches to ensure compatibility with Pickens County Roads & Bridges equipment. 3. Separate headwalls will not be accepted. Culvert sections with headwalls shall be one piece. 4. Each section shall be clearly marked and labeled. 5. Precast wing walls shall be supplied. Cast-in-place wing walls will not be accepted. The wing walls shall include a monolithic footer or bearing slab. Two-piece wing walls will not be accepted. The size of the bearing pad shall be determined by the design engineer. 6. Wing walls shall be constructed so that the total height will match the height of the culvert plus headwall. The wing wall shall slope at a rate of 3 : 1 and be 10' in length. 7. The culvert itself is a double-barrel, and each barrel shall have 8'(H) x 7'(W) hydraulic openings. The opening should be above the stream level during normal conditions . Each barrel shall have at least 48 ft of combined culvert sections. To reduce the weight of the sections, the barrels shall be separate (see culvert layout on page 14 for reference). DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION A. Delivery of the culvert will be to 274 Heritage Road, Easley, SC 29640. All sections of the double-barrel culvert shall be delivered no later than 6 weeks after the vendor receives the purchase order. B. Delivery of the double-barrel box shall be completed by the vendor or the vendor's subcontract haulers. Pickens County will coordinate with the vendor, and a one-week notice is required before delivery. Both the barrels, headwalls, and wing walls shall be delivered within 24 hours once the delivery date is set. C. The manufacturer shall have a representative on site during the delivery and setting of the culvert, in addition to the delivery drivers. D. The manufacturer shall provide the joint mastic that goes over each butt joint and the backing mastic that goes between the wing wall and headwall. Flat joint mastic shall have 6" overlaps.
