Demolition, site work, renovation and addition to a water / sewer project in Millis, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the addition of a water / sewer project; for the demolition of a water / sewer project; for the renovation of a water / sewer project; and for site work for a water / sewer project.
The Millis Middle/High School building was originally built in 1960 as a Junior/Senior High School for grades 7 through 12. In 1966, there was a 24-classroom addition and an increase in the size of the cafeteria and locker rooms to accommodate an increase in the student population. The building is a two-story brick and mortar structure of 125,000 square feet. In 1999, the building was renovated , but no additions were constructed. The current school serves 645 students in grades 6-12. This project includes demolition of the southwestern wing of the existing school , renovation of the remaining existing school facility, including removal of existing interior partitions, and construction of an approximately 55,000-square-foot new building addition along the south and east sides of the existing structure and new maintenance shed . The addition will include new classrooms, a gymnasium , restrooms, and office space. A new elevator will be constructed within the addition, adjacent to the southern wall of the existing building. The existing gym will be repurposed into an alternate PE space and media center, and existing high school classrooms, locker rooms, will be renovated and reconfigured. The site work is limited to new site circulation, parking, drainage, utilities, outdoor classroom and landscaping. Construction will be carried out in multiple phases over a 28-month period on a constrained, occupied campus. The school will remain operational throughout construction , requiring careful planning, sequencing, and coordination to maintain safe access for students, staff, and visitors while minimizing disruptions to ongoing educational and administrative activities. The phased approach will allow the project to progress efficiently while ensuring the continued operation of the school and associated offices. This project will have Business Enterprise Participation goals per the MSBA protocol, provided by the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office, along with Workforce compliance goals. Pursuant to M.G.L. c . 30, 39S(a)(2) all employees to be employed on the Project must have successfully completed a course in construction safety and health approved by OSHA and of at least 10 hours in duration.
