The Santiago Pump Station Modifications project will re-establish OCWD's ability to pump water from Santiago Basin when the water surface elevation is above 240 feet. The original Santiago Pump Station was constructed at the bottom of Bond Basin in 2002. During commissioning 3 of 4 submersible pumps failed leaving one functional pump capable of operating at basin water elevations between 285 feet and 240 feet. The floating pump station was constructed in 2011, and two 450 horsepower pumps were installed designed to operate at a basin water level below 240 feet. Recently the submersible pump failed requiring OCWD to operate the 450 horsepower pumps above basin water surface elevation of 240 feet. As a result, the larger pumps operate outside their design curve due to insufficient head.
