The Cyclotron Institute at Texas A&M University is a Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Center of Excellence and a National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Center of Excellence for discovery science and workforce development. Additionally, the Cyclotron Institute is the world's leading provider of heavy-ion beam time for testing electronic chips in terms of resilience to radiation. The proposed building addition will expand the capabilities for all of those programs. Importantly it will make the Cyclotron Institute a key differentiator in Texas A&M being a leader in chip design and fabrication with the ability to do radiation hardness tests on materials and electronics at various stages during design and fabrication. This will also allow for an enhanced workforce development effort in radiation effects testing. A new addition to the existing facility is envisioned to the southwest of the Cyclotron Institute. Space will be provided to increase beam line testing capabilities and allow for the future installation of a new spectrometer. The Planning Amount for this project is $28,100,000. The Planning Amount includes an Amount Available for Construction Contract (AACC) of $23,491,568. The balance of the Planning Amount is made up of fees, furnishings, other work, miscellaneous expenses, and contingencies.
