Scope of Work: Base Bid - installation of imitation slate roofing system with asphalt shingles as an Alternate roof material if accepted by Shepherd University and otherwork including metal trim and three (3) porch roofs to be replaced in-kind as noted and described below: 1. Roof Replacement Areas: a . b. Refer to roof plan drawing for roof area for replacement for Miller Hall . The building will be in use with staff, students, and events during the roof replacement project. Coordinated schedules and access to the building will be required during daytime and weekend access to work area. Contractor shall supply all labor, transportation, materials, apparatus, tools, and permits necessary for removal and replacement of the existing roof systems All roofing applications shall be in accordance with specifications and details. a. b. C. d . 3. 4. 5. 6. Contractor shall verify all conditions including roof construction and square footage and location of roof mounted equipment. Provide manufacturer's product data and material safety data sheets for all materials used including masonry re- pointing, metal work and ladders. All data sheets shall show the same product name as it appears on the materials that are installed. No materials shall be provided to job site containing asbestos. The roofing contractor is responsible for ensuring all gutters, scuppers and downspouts included in the specified roof replacement work are free flowing. Flush drains or downspouts to verify free flowing prior to the project start and at the project completion. The contractor shall notify Owner if any roof drains/ downspouts are found slow flowing or inoperative prior to the project start. Contractor shall verify all vent pipes being flashed are in working order. Extend 8" minimum above roof surface. Contractor shall notify Shepherd University personnel if any vents are clogged. Complete removal and disposal of existing roofing system including but not limited to existing roofing, metal flashings, drip edge, hidden gutters and downspouts, insulation, wood blocking and accessories down to the underlying (tongue and groove) wood roof deck. Prepare the roof substrate prior to installing the new roof system. Replace or repair existing defective decking on an additional per square foot cost by allowance above the quantity noted to be included for base bid. Provide decking of similar thickness. Remove and dispose of obsolete rooftop curbs, pitch pockets and miscellaneous penetrations. Caution shall be exercised for attachment of new materials and removal of existing items from deck surface. Install new roof decking or metal plating over opening. Install 1/8 inch steel plate over openings less than 2 by 2 ft. and 1/4 inch steel plate over openings larger than 2 by 2 ft. 1) 2) Lap plate over decking minimum 6-inches on all sides. 3) 4) Mechanically attach plating to decking a minimum of 12-inches o.c. Owner shall identify items to be removed (See paragraph 1.3.A.2). Raise existing roof curbs and plumbing vent stacks to minimum 8-inches above the new roof surface. Replace all existing exposed gutters with seamless gutter configuration to match existing and downspouts. Verify watertight connections to downspout to underground drainage system. Work shall also includehidden plumbing connections and accessories. Provide new splash blocks if spilling to grade. Install new layer of 1/2" plywood over the entire roof deck. Install self-adhered vapor barrier over roof deck as required by roof manufacturer. Provide downspout boots where tied to drainage system with cleanout. Install metal trim and flashings, including drip edge, valleys, hip flashings, and step flashings as required including curbs and penetrations. Install composite roof tile (imitation slate) per manufacturer's recommendation including starter strip, valleys, hip and ridge details. Porch Roof: Remove existing membrane roofing at low slope areas down to wood deck. Install 1/2" layer of polyiso insulation glued and screwed. Provide a minimum 1/4" gypsum cover board sheathing fully adhered. Install full adhered 60 mil gray PVC membrane. Provide at all flashing, drip edge, and metal trim. Remove all capped curbs that are not being used. Install all sheet metal details per specifications SMACNA requirements and standards. Install new minimum 24 gauge stainless steel metal flashings at all metal flashing locations unless specified otherwise. Install new stainless steel counterflashings. Cut-in new reglet joints. Install new stainless-steel pitch pocket assembly. Install new slip metal counter flashing detail at non-removable unit locations. Install miscellaneous metal flashings and related accessories
