Crestwood Middle School opened in 2004 with a SRC of 600 students and an oversized core space, with a footprint for a future addition. The school is currently operating at 83% of state rated capacity, but growth is expected in the area over the next ten years, including within the City of Frederick. This will necessitate the need for additional middle school seats to help balance enrollments, such as with Monocacy Middle which is at 99% SRC. The Crestwood Middle School project will utilize nearly the same design as the Oakdale Middle Addition project and will increase the capacity of the existing school by 318 students, adding about 22,000 SF to the existing building. The Crestwood Middle School project is expected to begin construction in the summer of 2023 and open in the summer of 2024. The project is included in the City's 2027-2032 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
