Replacement of the existing Visitor Center atrium at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, including selective demolition and demolition of the existing atrium; construction of a new atrium with structural, architectural, roofing, building-envelope, curtain-wall/glazing, entrance, and interior-finish work; and associated civil, landscape, parking, pedestrian pathway, paving, grading, earthwork, stormwater, and site improvements. The work includes fire-protection modifications, including dry-pipe sprinkler-system upgrades; plumbing and facility drainage improvements; HVAC and mechanical modifications with related piping, ductwork, equipment, controls, supports, testing, and balancing; electrical demolition and installation work including conductors, raceways, grounding, panelboards, wiring devices, lighting, and electrical distribution; and fire-alarm, communications, and other life-safety system improvements. Additional requirements include temporary facilities and controls, environmental protection, construction waste management, testing, commissioning, project documentation, and closeout. Construction will be performed under a single prime construction contract requiring coordination of multiple disciplines, including architectural, structural, civil/site, building-envelope, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire-protection, communications, and life-safety systems. The project will occur at an active visitor facility that is expected to remain occupied and accessible to park visitors outside the construction limits. Work must be planned to maintain public and employee access, protect existing resources, preserve required exits and life-safety functions, minimize operational disruptions, and provide temporary separation between construction and occupied areas. The project also includes historic-preservation requirements, protection of existing resources, controls for ground-disturbing activities, environmental protection measures, quality control, testing, commissioning, and multidisciplinary construction coordination.
