Elevation construction services for residential properties under the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The homes that are part of this elevation project are proposed to be elevated between 4.0 to 9 feet The project must be completed in strict compliance with the requirements specified in the corresponding HMGP agreement (Attachment P), the current Florida Building Code, ASCE 24-14 or latest edition and shall meeting National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards per 44 CFR Part 60 as well as the City of Bonita Springs local codes and ordinances. All materials shall be certified to exceed the wind and impact standards of the current local codes. In the case of homes with attached garages, elevated garages shall be converted to non-air-conditioned storage spaces. Garage doors shall be removed , and garage door openings shall be enclosed with an exterior wall utilizing like materials to match the existing exterior of the house and adding a hurricane-proof window in accordance with the City's ventilation requirement (minimum width: 36 inches) There are some homes that will require a powered platform lift as a component of an accessible route for the elevated structure in addition to the typical stairs with rails. Platform lifts will need to provide front, rear or side access while stairs will need provide front and rear access to the elevated homes. The city does not have specific requirements for platform lifts; however, they must meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code for 1 and 2 family dwellings, as well as the 2010 ADA Standards of Accessible Design.
