Site work and paving for a playground / park / athletic field in Acton, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; and for paving for a playground / park / athletic field.
Resurfacing three trails at the Acton Arboretum. the resurfacing project is part of a continuous effort to maintain and improve the existing trails so that all people may enjoy the Acton Arboretum's gardens, woodland, and wetland features . The project will involve a minimum excavation of up to 18" of three trails, that total an estimated 930 linear feet of material (dirt, stone dust, turf). The removed material will be replaced with a 6" to 9" layer of crushed gravel and fine grade, and compacted with at least 3" of Bituminous concrete. The result will provide three new wheel-friendly trails to enable access to features and provide more opportunities for all to explore the Acton Arboretum's trails. SCOPE OF SERVICES Trail Resurfacing Bidders are asked to resurface three separate trails at the Acton Arboretum to provide stable and wheel-friendly access. The three trails total 930 linear feet and will require excavation of material and the addition of compacted gravel and asphalt. Resurfaced trails need to be intentionally developed or left with the same grade to maintain accessible elevation gain. The three trails are: (1) Orchard Trail segment: estimated 225 linear feet, which currently consists of mowed turf and some stone dust. The Orchard Trail segment will connect with a 0% grade at the east end and a <5% grade bituminous trail at its west end. (2) Rhododendron Garden Trail segment, estimated 265 linear feet, is part of a semi-circle which begins and ends from the bituminous portion of the Wildflower Loop Trail . The segment starts at the China Trail Garden entrance consisting of 10 feet of concrete pavers. The trail consists of compacted gravel , grass and weeds. (3) Fragrance Garden Trail segment, estimated 440 linear feet, begins at the China Trail Garden entrance and 30 feet of concrete pavers. It would then loop clockwise in front of two curved benches, along a stone wall, and out to the stone dust trail approaching the turtle pond. It would complete a loop back to the China Trail Garden entrance. Construction: Excavate and dispose of up to 18" of existing unsuitable material , furnish and install 6" to 9" of crushed gravel , fine grade and compact, pave 3" bituminous concrete top course. Temporary Erosion Controls: This site is within proximity of wetlands and manicured gardens. The contractor must provide temporary 8-9" straw wattle erosion controls staked in alongside selected sections of the applicable trails and gardens that will be approved by the Conservation Agent after installation. Temporary Fencing: Provide temporary barricades and other protection required to prevent injury to people and provide protection to ensure safe passage of people around work area upon commencement of work. The Acton Arboretum is open to the public seven days a week from dawn to dusk. The Conservation Division office is open 8am - 4pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; Tuesday, between 8am-6pm; and Friday, 8am-12pm. The vendor is expected to coordinate the hours of operation with the Project Manager, lan Bergemann before commencement of work.
