The scope of work for the demolition project consists of removing the existing Grier Hall structure and existing underground coal bin located north of 9th Avenue South, East of Flora Frick Hall, West of Roland Dille Center for the Arts, and South of MacLean Hall . The demolition will also include site improvements related to water and storm sewer, electrical and communications, underground tunnels and pavement improvements. Per Minnesota State Statutes, a minimum of 50% of waste is to be diverted from landfills, using salvage, recycling, and similar alternative waste diversion procedures. Key features of the project include Removal of Grier Hall and defunct underground coal bin; Reconstruction of watertight tunnel system; Rerouting of subsurface utilities, such as within the tunnels, including fiber systems, and temporary accommodations to maintain services to campus; Reconstruction of the stormwater pipes and underground water mains and new connections to adjacent buildings; Reconstruction of pavement and landscaping to improve stormwater management.
