The Work of this Contract is installation of an ADA compliant footpath approximately 60 linear feet long and 5 feet wide from Howard Avenue to the playground. If a bidder has questions, requires additional information, or requires some clarification regarding the RFP, please contact (in writing ONLY via email) the following person at the Town no later than October 15 at 4:00pm: Scott Sevegny, Director of Parks and Recreation Department, at parksdirector@coventryri.gov. The Work of this Contract is installation of an ADA compliant footpath approximately 60 linear feet long and 5 feet wide from Howard Avenue to the playground. Budgetary Condition: The contract award is not automatic. Final approval is entirely contingent upon the selected proposal's total cost aligning with the approved project budget. Contractor to furnish all materials related to the completion of the job, to include removal of existing path, installation of tactile warning panel, excavation and disposal of subgrade material, installation and compacting 6" depth of gravel borrow subbase, laying and compacting of asphalt path to a finished depth of 2" of RIDOT Class I- 1 mix, loam and seed edges flush with existing lawn. A. Street Interface & Entry Transition o At the origin point on Howard Avenue, the contractor shall remove the existing pathway. Existing fencing along Howard Avenue shall remain. The contractor shall furnish and install a compliant Detectable Warning Panel directly embedded into the transition surface at the Howard Avenue right-of-way interface. The panels must feature compliant truncated domes, contrast visually with the adjacent walkway (e.g., Federal Yellow or Dark Brick Red as directed by the Town), and conform entirely to RIDOT Standard Detail 43.3.0. B. Excavation & Subgrade Preparation o The contractor shall clear all organic matter, loam, topsoil, and root systems down to a stable, unyielding subgrade across the full length of the approximately 60-foot alignment. Width of the path shall be 5 feet. Subgrade must be compacted thoroughly prior to the placement of any subbase aggregates. C. Subbase Course The contractor shall furnish, place, and compact a minimum of six (6) inches of Gravel Borrow conforming strictly to RIDOT Subsection M.01.02. Subbase must extend at least six (6) inches beyond the finished edge of the paved surface on both sides to prevent edge failure along the lawn. D. Surface Course (Asphalt) The contractor shall lay and compact a minimum finished depth of two (2) inches of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA). The asphalt mix design shall be a fine- graded surface mix (conforming to RIDOT Class I- 1 or equivalent dense-graded surface course) to ensure a smooth, tightly sealed, pedestrianfriendly surface. Compaction must be achieved using an appropriate vibratory roller. Hand-tampers or small plate compactors are permitted only in tight radii or gate connections at the playground fencing where heavy machinery cannot pass. E. Slope, Geometry & ADA Compliance Cross Slope: The finished lateral cross slope shall be set between 1.5% and 2.0% maximum to ensure adequate water shedding across the lawn without violating federal ADA accessibility boundaries. A cross slope exceeding 2.0% will be rejected. Running Slope: The longitudinal grade must track natural topography while prioritizing a slope of under 5%. If grading conditions on-site force a slope greater than 5%, the contractor must immediately notify the Coventry project manager to coordinate landing/ramp mitigation. F. Site Restoration & Drainage The path must be graded to shed water away from the playground equipment areas. All disturbed lawn or park areas adjacent to the new path must be backfilled with clean topsoil, raked flush with the new pavement edge to eliminate tripping hazards, and seeded. G. General Protect the safety of the public on public ways and on public property, including the site, and exclude the public from the job site for the safety of the public and security of the Contractor's work and equipment. No sedimentation shall be allowed to discharge from the project work limits. Existing trees shall be protected from damage, including protection of root zones
