The University of Maine (UMaine), located in Orono, Maine, desires to procure architectural and engineering design services from individual firms or teams for the Zebrafish Lab construction in Hitchner Hall. General As part of Maine's land-grant university, the University of Maine will renovate Hitchner Hall Room 184 to establish a laboratory to increase research utilizing zebrafish. The new laboratory will require the renovation of approximately 1,250sf of existing space on the ground floor of Hitchner Hall adjacent to an existing zebrafish laboratory in room 183. The selected A/E firm will coordinate the design with the existing University Aquatics Design Consultant. Conceptual Project Description The facility will provide: o A significant increase in zebrafish capacity for research. o Creating a new 1,250sf laboratory will supplement the existing zebrafish laboratory operating in an adjacent space in Hitchner Hall. o The additional capacity with the new laboratory will increase research productivity and provide flexibility for faculty working with zebrafish. o The renovation will include but not be limited to the following: 1. Demolition 2. Concrete slab removal and replacement 3. Wall framing including construction of a pump room 4. Insulation 5. FRP/PVC paneling 6. Window - treatment or replacement 7. Doors, frames, and hardware 8. Cleanable impervious ACT ceiling 9. Resinous flooring and integral base 10. Laboratory casework 11. Fire protection sprinklers 12. Plumbing domestic and plumbing for aquarium tanks with coordination with UM vendor 13. Underground plumbing and trench drainage 14. RO system existing and new with coordination with UM vendor 15.
