Site work for a road / highway in Portland, Maine. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway.
Work involving the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals, street lighting, and other traffic control devices. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to diagnoses and evaluates malfunctioning traffic signal equipment; installs, maintains and repairs any and all types of traffic control equipment along with traffic signs; participates in the on-call program for traffic operations; assists in the operation of pavement markings and other division activities as assigned; keeps operation and maintenance records and makes reports; participates in winter operations at all levels; operates specialized trucks and equipment in the maintenance of traffic signals, signs, markings, control devices and street lighting. Requirements: Extensive knowledge of electronics, mechanics, wiring and electrical code; ability to read and understand plans, diagrams, schematics and specs related to traffic signal installation, maintenance and repair; ability to diagnose and recognize traffic signal system problems and make repairs; ability to work alone or as a team; ability to operate trucks and any other equipment used by the department; knowledge of hazards and of applicable safety rules and regulations for operating equipment; knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the work assignment; ability and willingness to wear personal protective equipment required by specific job assignments; good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; proven ability to communicate effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to obtain satisfactory work output; must be physically capable of performing any of the essential job duties. Training and Experience Desired: Extensive experience in the maintenance/installation of traffic signals and other related traffic maintenance work; must be high school graduate or have any equivalent combination of experience and training; and completion of advanced courses in electricity or electronics is highly desired. Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess a valid State of Maine Class B Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or have ability to obtain within 6 months; must have and maintain a good driving record; must pass federally mandated drug test, pre-employment physical and lift assessment test; must possess valid State of Maine Traffic Limited Electrical License or an acceptable candidate may be offered 24 months to obtain; offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Pay range starting at $873.60/week - Plus, a $3.00 market rate stipend added per hour for qualified applicant.
