Construction of 18.7 km of rail line from Oshawa East to Bowmanville, using either CN or CP corridors for the extension. The project includes construction even new bridges: Highway 401, GM Spur, Oshawa Creek, Wilson Rd, Harmony Creek, Farewell Creek and Green Rd. Two bridge replacements: Simcoe St and Ritson Rd. One bridge removal at Albert St. Five bridge expansions: Durham College Oshawa GO (pedestrian bridge), Stevenson Rd, Park Rd, Harmony Rd, and Courtice Rd. Widening of ten at-grade crossings to accommodate GO track(s): Bloor St East, Prestonvale Rd, Private crossing at Doms Auto Parts, Trulls Rd, Baseline Rd (two locations), Rundle Rd, Holt Rd, Private crossing west of Maple Grove Rd, and Maple Grove Rd.
The project will include construction of Two new GO stations will be built in Oshawa (on Thornton Road and on Ritson Road), one in Courtice (on Courtice Road) and one in Bowmanville (on Martin Road). The existing Oshawa GO station would remain open.
The preferred route includes four proposed GO stations: Thorntons Corners East, Ritson, Courtice and Bowmanville. TIMELINE:
An Initial Business Case (IBC) for this project was completed in 2015.
Metrolinx has completed a Preliminary Design Business Case as of April 2020. The preferred option focuses on the route that uses the Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway existing alignment north of highway 401 through to Bowmanville.
A Public Information Centre was held June 14, 2023, to address the Environmental Report Addendum. Public comment will be included in the Environmental Project Report.
This will proceed with the Barrie Rail Corridor Expansion for which the pre-qualification for Design-Build Finance Consortia and Request For Proposals issued April, 2022. These were followed separately and awarded under the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) model. Bowmanville Construction Partners (BCP), a general partnership between Ledcor CMI Ltd. and Dragados Canada Inc., has been awarded an early-stage contract to advance infrastructure planning on the extension. The overall project value is $355,000,000.
