Description

Site work for a bridge / tunnel in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Conceptual plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel.

Construction of a bridge over the CPR yards to replacement the Arlington Bridge. Scope to include; 550-metre bridge supported in the centre by a steel-tied arch that would rise 45 metres off the ground. The new bridge would also be three lanes wide, rather than the current two, but would be expandable to four lanes in the event McPhillips Street is closed for construction. Intersection improvements at every cross street along 1.7-kilometre stretch of Arlington Street from McDermot Avenue to Selkirk Avenue, with bike lanes running this entire distance. TIMELINE: Plans are conceptual. Council has approved funding for demolition of the existing structure, which began July 2026 and is expected to take approx. 18 months to complete. Council has also approved $5 million to advance design work for the new bridge. Whether or not the consultant who complete the feasibility study will do the design work is unconfirmed at this time. Further information may be available early 2027.
