New construction of a museum in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a 35,175-square-foot, two-story above grade museum.
Thunder Bay Art Gallery is the only public art gallery in Northwestern Ontario and it has outgrown its 16,000 sq ft facility. The Gallery hosts travelling art exhibitions, community events and professional development activities for artists, in addition to serving the general public. The building will be designed in accordance with the Ontario Building and Fire Codes, and to meet the required standards for Class A designation by the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) and incorporate sustainability LEED Silver principles. (The building will not proceed with the LEED Certification process). TIMELINE: Construction Manager has been selected. Sequential tendering is underway. Construction start and completion timelines are current unconfirmed. *Patkau Architects and Brook McIlroy Architects are working in in joint-venture. *Infrastructure Canada announced a contribution of $19.6 million to the project.
