New construction, renovation and addition to a mixed-use development in East York, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a four-story below grade, 413-space parking garage; for the addition of a 550,000-square-foot, eight-story above grade medical facility; and for the renovation of a 100,000-square-foot medical facility.

Demolition of three existing hospital buildings and construction of a new 550,000 sq ft addition to the hospital to replace the aging facilities as follows: Phase One: Consists of demolition and redevelopment of A, B, C, E & F wings for construction of an eight-storey expansion building at the corner of Sammon and Coxwell Aves. Along with the new tower and connection to the existing hospital, this project also includes redeveloping about 100,000 sq ft of existing floorspace. The first two floors of the new facility will be devoted to outpatient or ambulatory care, while the upper floors will have in-patient rooms. The building will have a more efficient "racetrack" design, where rooms are located around a centralized work and care space. A double-height, glass-enclosed lobby would extend across the patient care tower podium, connecting it with the rest of the complex. The lobby will look out onto a large landscaped park fronting onto Coxwell Avenue, though this would come at a cost, replacing the existing hospital's Streamline Moderne-style main frontage. This outdoor space will be complemented by outdoor roof terraces for use by patients and staff. The building will feature nine loading docks, and four storeys of below grade parking for 413 spaces. Phase Two: Proposes demolition of K-wing for construction of the Sammon Ave frontage and the Coxwell Ave frontage which will consist of an in-patient podium extending from the existing J-wing. This Phase will include construction of an entrance to the below grade parking from Mortimer Ave. Phase Three: Includes redevelopment of Knight Street frontage, and replacement of the existing parking garage and surface parking with new clinical parking and below grade parking. Project is aiming for LEED Silver Certification for design excellence and sustainability and will be delivered using IO's Alternative Financing and Procurement model. Official groundbreaking took place April 25, 2018. Sub trade tenders will be issued to an invited list as required. Construction is scheduled to reach substantial completion fall 2023. Diamond Schmitt Architects and B+H Architects are working in Joint-Venture. GFL Environmental - Corporate Head Office: Shoring/Demolition/Excavation Subcontractor. Redevelopment of this hospital has been estimated at $411 million. Contract with Infrastructure Ontario for work on the West Park Healthcare Centre is 1.2 billion, however this includes design, build, finance and maintain the site over a 30-year period.
