Site work and paving for a road / highway in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. Design plans call for site work for a road / highway.
Plans call to reconstruct the Interchange include to maintain a safe and efficient east-west freeway and to improve the roadway deficiencies that currently exist within the corridor. This solicitation encompasses the preliminary and final design for roadway improvements on I – 90/94 and WIS 82. This project consists of reconstructing the interchange of I – 90/94 and WIS 82 in the City of Mauston. Project limits extend from the I – 90/94 Lemonweir River bridges north to the I 90/94 bridges over County Highway G in the City of Mauston. Roadway design elements will include adjusting the vertical profile of I – 90/94 mainlines in order to provide an increased vertical clearance over WIS 82, and lengthening the I – 90/94 westbound onramp to accommodate the increased time and distance required for merging truck traffic from WIS 82. This project also includes reconstructing WIS 82 from Powers Avenue west to 0.25 miles west of I – 90/94 and the addition of signals or roundabouts at the I – 90/94 ramp terminals and WIS 82. Construction will occur in two stages so four lanes of traffic (two eastbound and two westbound) on I – 90/94 will be open at all times. Stage 1 will begin with the widening of the three existing I – 90/94 westbound bridges. Both eastbound and westbound I – 90/94 traffic will then be carried by the westbound bridges while the three eastbound bridges are removed and replaced. This stage will also include the reconstruction of WIS 82 west of I – 90/94. For Stage 2, both eastbound and westbound I – 90/94 traffic will then be carried by the three newly constructed I – 90/94 eastbound bridges while the westbound bridges are removed and replaced. Stage 2 will include the reconstruction of WIS 82 east of I – 90/94. Extensive coordination with Bureau of Structures bridge design will be required. Aviation coordination will also be required. The first stage, scheduled to begin in 2021, will occur entirely on I-90/94, and will temporarily widen the existing westbound bridges and roadway and construct median crossovers in anticipation of replacing the eastbound bridges the following spring. The second stage, scheduled for 2022, will move eastbound I-90/94 traffic over to the westbound side, running four lanes of counter-directional traffic. This will allow construction on the eastbound side of the Interstate including the eastbound bridges, eastbound ramps, and the eastbound lanes. The ramps will be staged to allow them to remain open at all times. WIS 82 will be reduced to one lane in each direction while the opposite side is being reconstructed. Access to driveway entrances and intersections will be maintained during construction operations. Pedestrian access will be limited to one side at a time. WIS 82 traffic will switch sides mid-way through the summer to reconstruct the other side. The majority of work on WIS 82 is anticipated to be completed in the 2022 construction year. County G (Sherman St.) will be closed temporarily under the Interstate bridges using a detour while the bridge foundations are constructed. The second stage work is anticipated to use most of the 2022 construction season. As winter arrives, the work will be suspended and eastbound traffic reverted to its normal side on the Interstate. The third stage is anticipated to begin in the late winter or early spring of 2023. The third stage will move westbound I-90/94 traffic over to the eastbound side, running four lanes counter-directional traffic. This will allow construction on the westbound side including the westbound bridges, westbound ramps, and the westbound lanes. The ramps will be staged to allow them to remain open at all times. Traffic control on WIS 82 should be limited to short-term lane closures during bridge foundation work. County G (Sherman St) will be closed temporarily under the Interstate bridges using a detour while the bridge foundations are constructed. Construction on I-90/94 will most likely take the entire 2023 construction season.
