Demolition, site work and addition to a mixed-use development in Calgary, Alberta. Completed plans call for the addition of a 203,083-square-foot, two-story above grade fitness / recreation center; swimming pool; clubhouse / community center; and library.
WSP on behalf of Vivo for Healthier Generations (Vivo) is inviting proposals to pre-qualify a General Contractor to construct their Expansion project. Vivo opened in 2004, and began as an 18,867sq m LEED Gold Accredited regional recreational facility located within a 57 acre campus in North Central Calgary. The existing facility hosts two NHL sized ice arenas, a triple gymnasium, fitness centre, leisure pools, climbing wall, multipurpose spaces, child minding and Preschool, a Calgary Public Library branch, research and innovation lab, health services and community organizations. The expansion project will increase the existing facility by approximately 36%, with renovation to 20% of the existing facility, and will include a 25-metre 6 lane lap pool, steam room and sauna, increased fitness area, research and innovation spaces, community multi-purpose spaces/meeting rooms, an indoor park and exterior courtyards for the community and program use. The Project includes targeting LEED Gold version 4 certification. TIMELINE: Ground-breaking is expected late April 2021. Construction is expected to take work in 18 to 20 months to complete. *Award amount was not released for publication.
