Renovation of a municipal facility in Alliston, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
Construction (renovation and addition) of a New Municipal Administration Office Building in Alliston, Ontario. The 25 Albert Street West property is approximately 17,621m2 in size, with 170m of frontage along Albert Street, and 181m along Tupper Street. The site is currently developed as a Public School with parking and hard and soft playground areas. The scope of work includes repurposing the former Alliston Union Public School to serve as a modern Municipal Administration Centre. This adaptive re-use project consists of the renovation and addition to an existing two-storey structure built in 1968. The property was purchased by the Town of New Tecumseth from the Simcoe Muskoka District School Board in 2016 with the express intent of redeveloping the building as a New Municipal Administration Centre for the Town. The existing building is a 2-storey structure designed originally to accommodate public school functions for the Alliston Public School. The project to re-purpose the facility will require reconfiguration of a major portion of the building including all finishes, majority of interior non-load bearing partitions, and entire mechanical and electrical systems. In the former gymnasium area of the school, approximately half of this area will be infilled with a new 2nd floor. The remaining double height area of the gymnasium will be re-purposed as the Council Chamber for the Town. The final component of the renovation will include a small new addition including: double height entrance lobby, new circulation/exit stair and a new elevator. The renovated building, when complete, will be comprised primarily of administration offices, meeting rooms and support spaces for the Administration functions of the Town. TIMELINE: The owner opted to proceed with the refurbishment and repurposing on this site. Tender was issued to an invited list June 2021 and has been awarded. The owner completed the separate Selective Demolition Contract to remove the majority of interior finishes, majority of interior non-load bearing partitions, obsolete mechanical and electrical systems, and undertake designated substances abatement. This contract will also include the full demolition of the existing 1955 portion of the building. (single-storey south-west portion of the building) The successful General Contractor will assume the building post-selective demolition. Contact for the consulting engineers is not available. Construction is underway. All sub trade tenders have been secured from an invited list.
