Site work and new construction of a road / highway in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Design plans call for the construction of a road / highway.
As of April 1, 2020, this project is in the design. Construction of the reconfigured Pell Bridge ramp system is planned to begin in the spring of 2021. The RhodeWorks program entails complete removal of the viaduct infrastructure and the construction of four roundabouts to move traffic from the bridge into downtown and reconnect city streets. This would open up 34 acres for development and provide a roadway network for future development. The plan also includes a park-and-ride, rail shuttle and bike path. According to RIDOT, the bridge and ramps carry more than 40,000 vehicles per day during peak summer season with delays spreading out up to a mile. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
