Site work for a bridge / tunnel in Portland, Oregon. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel.
The Morrison Bridge main river structure consists of two steel deck truss side spans and a double-leaf Chicago-type bascule draw span. The current paint system on the river spans of the bridge exhibits a large percentage of deterioration or failure, with some areas of exposed steel. Existing information also suggests that the current paint system contains lead. The Morrison Bridge Main Spans Paint Project primarily consists of the removal of pack rust and preparing the existing steel members by sandblasting, then coating the steel in the fixed truss (Spans 1 and 3), bascule (Spans 2W and 2E) and east approach (Belmont Viaduct Spans 1 and 2) spans. In addition, the project includes making repairs to some of the steel members in the bascule spans at the floorbeam-to-stringer and floorbeam-to-truss connections. Below is a general scope of work expected for this project. High-level scope of work: o Remove surfacing and re-coat the below-deck structural steel of the over-water spans of the Morrison Bridge. o Prepare surface and apply coatings to specific truss chord members. o Install structural steel repairs of select truss members. o Replace existing gutter drainage system in the bascule spans. o Replace existing fiber reinforced plastic sidewalk panels on bascule spans with new aluminum panels. o Implement signing and striping and traffic control revisions. The project was put out for bids in Fall 2020, but all bids exceeded the available funds for the project. The scope of the project was modified for this bid. The changes include removal of metalization, sign structure painting and electrical work. Additionally, more staging area options have been defined and containment system limits have been revised to increase work efficiencies.
