Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Brookhaven, New York. Design plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
This project would replace the CR 46, William Floyd Parkway/Narrows Bay (Smith Point) bridge and improve the alignment of the approach roads to the bridge. A recent engineering study concluded that the bridge structure is in a deteriorated state and a full bridge replacement would be the best option to advance. Project will receive Federal funds and State grant funds. As of March 30, 2023 The Smith Point Bridge replacement project, including the construction of a new fixed bridge with a fishing pier and a pedestrian walkway with an overlook, will cost the county about $112 million. Construction is estimated to begin in 2024. A design team has been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
