Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Duluth, Minnesota. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a 350-bed, 300-seat educational facility.
As of October 8, 2021, the project has been been canceled due to implications from the pandemic. This project has a budget of $70 million -- $50 million for the dormitory and $20 million for the dining facility. The dormitory will be 10 stories and provide housing for 350 students. The new dining facility will support those additional students living on campus as well as ease the burden on the school's current dining hall, which is at capacity. Construction is slated to begin in May 2020. The dining hall is expected to open by summer 2021, while the new dormitory will be ready for residents by the start of the 2021 fall semester. Only pre-design work has been completed so far. The plans are in the schematic phase. "That's what happens in schematic -- you're kind of taking Lego blocks and kind of putting them together," Smyth said. In September, of 2019, design development will begin, when architects will determine exact square footage and measurements. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
