San Diego Unified School District officials on Tuesday will discuss using $18 million in bond money to purchase new property for a charter school. The proposed 3.4-acre site for Innovations Academy on Ruffin Road in Kearny Mesa is currently a 54,400-square-foot office building. If trustees approve the purchase, the building will be renovated to include a reception area, two offices for the principal and vice principal, a conference room, faculty lounge, staff and student restrooms and up to 20 classrooms. The issue arises as the district seeks voter approval this November for a new $3.5 billion bond issue. This project is part of a 2018 bond that was passed and approved by the voters on November 6, 2018. Per the owner, as of December 4, 2019, a general contractor has been selected and construction began on November 7, 2019.
