The project involves constructing a six-story, 330,000-square-foot justice center that will be connected to the existing courthouse, reconstructing Hancock Square and expanding the green space to 113,000 square feet from 40,000 square feet, and renovating the current historic courthouse. The undertaking is significant on several fronts. Montgomery County's capital improvement program for the years 2021 through 2025 includes $800 million of projected spending, and the Justice Center accounts for nearly half of that amount. It stands as the largest five-year capital project in the county's history and is primarily being funded through bond proceeds.
