Site work, new construction and renovation of an educational facility in Towson, Maryland. Completed plans call for the construction of a 240,000-square-foot, six-story above grade educational facility; for the renovation of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
As of October 11, 2024, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Towson University’s College of Health Professions, held a dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Health Professions Building – a 240,000-square-foot space. No additional information is expected. The project, as proposed, involves the design of a new College of Health Professions building to consolidate the Dean's Office and all Health Professions' departments and units. The new facility will house the undergraduate and graduate programs of the College of Health Professions' School of Nursing (presently Department of Nursing); Department of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Department of Health Science, Department of Interprofessional Health Studies and Department of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science Department, portions of the Department of Kinesiology; Collaborative Programs; and the Dean's Office. While the Department of Kinesiology will move academic spaces into the new facility to gain efficiency, some space will remain within the Towson Center and Burdick Hall to support the Athletic Training program and its interaction with Athletics' Sports Medicine. In addition, Kinesiology faculty members will remain in their recently renovated offices in Burdick Hall to have access to laboratory, activity, and gym spaces. The scope of this project includes a new chiller plant within the new building, with connections to the existing campus Central Utility Plant and room for future chillers. Also included in the scope is the demolition of Linthicum Hall, Dowell Health Center, small storage shed and existing surface parking Lot 6A; utility line removal and relocation; site development and landscaping; and reconfiguration/extension of a portion of University Avenue that connects to Burke Avenue. Once the new College of Health Professions building consolidates its program into one building, the project includes the removal of Linthicum Hall to allow for the expansion of the Campus Quad and the development of a new campus green. The removal of Linthicum will highlight the topographic grade change at its south side, opening up the hillside for a grand, terraced green quad. The new College of Health Professions building will benefit - its western side flanking the green and its upper levels framing views out onto the quad and down onto the College of Liberal Arts and Cook Library. *This project has been updated for historical data and reference purposes. The information has been provided as it was received and confirmed.
