As of November 29, 2023, Dayton is looking to purchase an out-of-service railroad corridor for a future project, in which the city anticipates investing roughly $8 million, that will link hundreds of miles of bike and walking trails to the city's center. Negotiations are underway. Further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. This project will transform an abandoned and blighted rail line corridor into a multi-use trail and urban greenway that will connect downtown Dayton and the Historic Inner East neighborhoods into the existing regional trail system. This project will also provide a direct connection from downtown Dayton into the city of Kettering. We envision a trail that: -Improves mobility and increases quality of life -Removes a blighted and abandoned rail corridor -Creates a new recreational amenity and alternative transportation option -Incorporates neighborhood history and local artists -Inspires hope and investment in the corridor Scope of work: This project will transform a six and a half (6.5) mile out-of-service rail corridor beginning in downtown Dayton and ending in the city of Kettering into the "Flight Line", a recreational multi-use trail and urban greenway.
