Paving and remodeling of a bridge / tunnel in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Completed plans call civil work for a bridge / tunnel.

As of July 26 2021 this project is in construction. This project phase will replace the existing bridge on Laskin Road (Route 58) located 1 mile east of First Colonial Road. The Laskin Road Bridge crosses Linkhorn Bay in the Hilltop area. The current bridge was built in 1938, was later widened in 1956 and is in overall fair condition. The limits of construction for this project are from the existing bridge to Red Robin Road and will connect to the Phase 1A project to the west. The Laskin Road bridge will be widened to five travel lanes with a sidewalk on the eastbound side of the bridge and a shared-use path on the westbound side. The bridge will be built to accommodate future expansion to six lanes. Project is included City of Virginia Beach FY 2022-2027 CIP Page 73 ________________________ Phase 1: This project phase will replace the existing bridge on Laskin Road (Route 58) located 1 mile east of First Colonial Road. Phase 1A: This project includes construction of an 8-lane divided highway on Laskin Road (two 12-foot through lanes and one 14-foot wide outside lane to accommodate bikes in each direction and a continuous right turn lane in each direction) with a 5-foot sidewalk on the south, a 10-foot shared-use path on the north. The limits of construction for this project are from Republic Road to the existing Linkhorn Bay bridge and will connect to the Phase 1 project to the east. This phase also includes full improvements to the Laskin Road/First Colonial Road intersection, as well as construction of a 6-lane divided highway on First Colonial Road from Laurel Lane to I-264. As of April 24, 2019, this project is in design stage. However, information regarding design firm and general contractor information has not been released. Construction is slated to begin in Summer of 2019, with completion date Fall of 2022. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
