The most recent bridge inspection report for the Harris Street Bridge indicates it has degraded to "poor" condition. In light of this new designation, staff believes the bridge should be replaced rather than repaired and painted. The City will have to revise it's Memorandum of Agreement with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT) that will place the responsibility on ADOT to design and construct the replacement bridge. Under the terms and conditions of such an agreement, the City would be responsible for providing the approximate 10% local match for the project. As April 23, 2024, this project is currently in the FY 2024 - 2028 CIP. Information regarding a design firm and the general contractor selection timeline has not been disclosed.
