Renovation of a library in Westford, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the renovation of a library.

The deadline for questions and additional information is August 6, 2019 at 4 PM. In accordance with M.G.L. c. 149, the Town of Westford is seeking sealed bids from qualified contractors for the restoration of nine (9) historic windows located at the J.V. Fletcher Library in Westford, MA. A. The Work under the Contract consists of: 1. Repair and restoration of nine (9) single-hung original wood windows at the front facade of the J.V. Fletcher Library in Westford MA. 2. Perimeter caulking and glazing putty contain asbestos as determined by testing material samples. Abatement of caulking and putty are part of the project scope and these materials shall be legally removed as specified. a. The Abatement Consultant shall prepare a "Non Traditional Working Plan" (NTWP) for the Contractor's use of the abandoned fire station across the street for abatement work since putty abatement requires removal of the sash from each opening but there is no suitable location on site within the building for abatement work to be performed. b. Putty shall be carefully removed in order to salvage existing glass and to preserve the wood sash components to the extent possible. 3. The Contractor shall provide adequate and safe exterior access to the windows at the front facade as needed for the required abatement of caulking, repairs to frames, painting, sealants, and replacement of exterior storm windows. 4. The Contractor shall provide adequate interior protection from dust and damage for the required removal and reinstallation of window stops and sash, pulley lubrication, removal of cords, provision of chains, and weight pocket covers. 5. Provide temporary weather-tight closure at each sash opening immediately following the removal of sash. a. Openings in the offices (W1, W2, W3) shall be provided with plexiglass or similar clear viewing panels sized appropriately for wind loading. b. Openings in the Mary Atwood Room (W4 thru W9) shall be provided with painted plywood. c. Placement of temporary closure shall allow access to frame and sill repairs from the exterior to the extent possible. After frame work is done, install replacement storm windows and remove temporary closure panels. B. Refer to the Drawings, Photographs of existing conditions and Specifications for descriptions of the scope of work required for this Project. 1. Drawings indicate existing dimensions and details of the window sash, frame, pulleys, muntins and weight pocket covers. 2. Drawings do not indicate the exterior storm windows (existing and replacement). 3. Refer to the Unit Price Schedule (Section 01 22 00) for the provision of additional missing weight pocket covers if needed, and for replacement glass if breakage occurs during putty removal.
