Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Calgary, Alberta. Completed plans call for the construction of a 190,000-square-foot, three-story above grade, 1,200-seat theater / auditorium.
Phase 1, referred to as the "Roadhouse", will be a new multi-venue arts facility consisting flexible performance space providing approx. 1,200 new seats in two theatres. The new Roadhouse will be open to booking by a wide variety of user groups and does not provide preferred access to a specific venue for any independent arts organization on an ongoing or permanent basis. This facility is looking to achieve LEED Silver certification. It also includes an above-ground connector bridge from the new facility to the existing facility. This connector will need to consider interoperability between the service, support spaces and various venues. Apart from this, construction of Phase 1 will not include repairs and lifecycle, nor technological and other improvements, to the existing facility contemplated for Phase 2. Phase 2 of this project is followed separately. TIMELINE: Request for prequalification of Subcontractors was issued in spring 2024; sub awards will not be released for publication. Site work is underway. Building construction to commence shortly. *The Arts Commons Transformation will be completed through a tri-party agreement between Arts Commons, The City of Calgary, and the CMLC.
