Site work and paving for a road / highway in Wilmington, North Carolina. Conceptual plans call for paving for a road / highway; and for site work for a road / highway.
Proposed plans to extend Independence Boulevard (S.R. 1209) by 1.7 miles from Randall Parkway to U.S. 74 (Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway) in Wilmington. The purpose of the project is to improve connectivity and capacity by providing an additional four-lane, north-south corridor that would provide an increase in the overall traffic capacity within Central Wilmington. As of August 1, 2022, this project is in the planning phase. A prospective engineer has been selected but no contracts have been finalized. There is no timeline for finalizing the engineer contract at this time. Proposed right-of-way acquisition schedule is planned for 2027 and proposed construction is planned for 2029.
