The project involves renovating 124,560 sq ft of the existing brick-and-steel four-story building as well as building an 81,580-sq-ft classroom addition on the north side of the building; demolition of part of the first- and second-floor classroom wing on the building’s south side; and renovation of the remaining building, with new south-side entrance vestibules, lobby area and restrooms. The remaining building would be renovated, with new south-side entrance vestibules, lobby area, and restrooms for after-school events in the gym, cafeteria and auditorium. A new library would be built, as well as a large-group instruction area, renovated art and music areas, and a separate space and equipment for technical education. As of January 6, 2021, construction documents are nearing completion. The project is anticipated to be advertised for construction bids in February 2021. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring/ Summer 2021.
