The City is looking for a Contractor to complete the external repair of 283 metres (m) of the Kenilworth Transmission Watermain which consists of: - A horizontal alignment (person accessible), 240 m in length installed inside a tunnel (the "Horizontal Section") - A vertical alignment (person accessible), 43 m in length installed inside a shaft (the "Vertical Section") The Kenilworth Transmission Watermain was built in 1960 and the pipeline is constructed of 2.44 m (8 feet) long, mild steel cylindrical segments that were connected using full-penetration welds. The 12.7 millimetre (mm) (0.5 inch) thick plate steel (ASTM A283C) was rolled and welded to construct the pipe. The inside diameter (ID) of the steel pipe is 1099 mm (43.25 inches), with an additional 16 mm (5/8 inch) thick cement mortar lining for an effective internal diameter of 1067 mm (42.0 inches). The outside diameter (OD) of the pipe is 1124 mm (44.25 inches). The pipe is coated with a coal tar enamel coating (installed directly on the steel), with a polyurea (or similar) coating added at a later date that was applied directly on the coal tar enamel coating. The general scope of the repairs to the watermain include: - Replacement of platforms and stairs (vertical section) - Replacement of the manhole frame and cover at the top of the access hatch - Removal of existing concrete pipe supports - Stripping of the outer polyurea coating and restoration of the external corrosion barrier (approximately 227 m) along the horizontal section of pipe - Application of an external glass-fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) wrap to areas of significant deterioration (approximately 39 m) - Restoration of the site Documents can be obtained at: https://hamilton.bidsandtenders.ca
