Description: Construct a four-lane divided highway from New Ulm to Nicollet (12.5-mile segment) and bypass the city of Courtland New Ulm to North Mankato Corridor A preferred route has been selected and the final environmental document is complete Four-lane expansion of 22.5 miles from New Ulm to North Mankato Project segments include (west to east): New Ulm Gateway New Ulm to Nicollet (including Courtland) Nicollet to North Mankato New Ulm to Nicollet (currently in design) The 12.5-mile segment of Hwy 14 from New Ulm to Nicollet was included in an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) completed in 2011 and preliminary design is nearly complete. MnDOT is currently in the process of right-of-way acquisition. Construction of the four-lane expansion of Hwy 14 with a Courtland bypass is scheduled for construction in 2022-23. Summary of work Construct a four-lane divided highway to separate opposing vehicles Bypass the city of Courtland Construct grade-separated interchanges at Nicollet County Road 37 and on the Courland by pass for CR 12 and CR 24 (including bridges at each location) Construction Restricted Crossing U-Turns (RCUTs) at higher risk at-grade intersections, including: New Ulm Quartzite Quarries Jeremy Drive/Kohn Drive (residential neighborhood) Minnesota Valley Lutheran School Replace three box culverts Provide right turn lanes at all public roads Provide left turn lanes at all median crossings Realign intersecting roadway to square them to Hwy 14 Construct 12’ lanes and 8’ paved shoulders to allow farm machinery a full 20’ of width without encroaching on the inside lanes Install snow fence at key locations to prevent excessive blowing and drifting snow Install lighting at county road intersections Reconstruct two-lane on existing alignment between Hwy 15 and CR 37 Preliminary design layout A project open house is scheduled for March 22, 2022.
