Demolition, new construction and renovation of a mixed-use development in Toronto, Ontario. Working plans call for the construction of a 23,220-square-foot clubhouse / community center; and 141,916-square-foot, 29-story above grade, 294-unit multi-residential development.
Construction of a 29-storey mixed-use building containing approx. 294 for Indigenous seniors. The building will also include ceremonial space / community centre space, a smudging room and indoor and outdoor amenities for residents. The facade is expected to feature materials and patterns inspired by Indigenous art, creating a visual narrative that bridges the past with the present. The building's layout prioritizes communal spaces, fostering a sense of community among residents, while the inclusion of green spaces and terraces ensures a connection with nature, a vital aspect of Indigenous culture. TIMELINE: Site plan has been submitted to the city of Toronto and is under review. Missanabie Cree First Nation is the development partner. Project was awarded to the Missanabie Cree First Nation, whose team includes EllisDon Community Builders. Designs as well as planning approvals are ongoing. Demolition is underway. Construction mobilization is expected November 2024. Further update late 2024. *Builder: EDCB EllisDon Community Builders - Affordable Housing arm of EllisDon. *ERA Architect - Heritage Architect. *The city is supporting the delivery of this project through the Housing Now Initiative which includes dedicating city-owned land and financial incentives for the development of affordable housing within mixed-income, mixed-use, transit-oriented communities.
